Note: Max-Diff scores are usually reported to 0-100 scale where:
- A score of 100 means the item has always been chosen as having the strongest personal relevance.
- A score of 0 means the item has always been chosen as having the least personal relevance.
- A score of 50 is neutrality. A score less than 50 means the item is on average more likely to be considered the most relevant than the least. The opposite for a score greater than 50.
- Items scoring below 50 should not be considered for further development as they are performing below average.
We believe that everyone can take a first step to think an innovative solution to improve the city we live in. If you got an initial social start-up idea, you may propose your idea that tackles a pressing social issue related to your country in 200-500 words or video to participate the Asia Social Innovation Award. Winners will have the opportunity to sharpen their idea and business model in social start-up weekend with our network supports.

Try to identify a small piece within the general social problem and combine it with social needs, then think of an innovative solution to tackle it. ATSN polls citizens from main countries/ cities in Asia to discover the most pressing social issues and inspire innovations to solve them afterward through the Asia Social Innovation Award. ATSN is organized by Social Venture Hong Kong (SVhk) in collaboration with Macromill.

Methodology

The study is to identify the top social needs and most relevant to the participants from 13 main Asian countries/cities (China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam). The top 3 of social needs will become the next topics of Asia Social Innovation Award 2016.
The study includes 4 major areas of social needs (Poverty, Social, Environmental and Economic). Under the 4 major areas, there are 16 sub-categories of social issues for choosing (Housing, Employment, Income Inequality, Health, Community relationship, Social Inequality, Youth, Family & Child, Education, Ageing population, Protection against crime & violence, Environment, Water & sanitation, Waste & recycling management, Food insecurity & Agriculture development and Town planning). The survey also provides an opportunity for participants to enter their own concerned social issue.
Participants will give responses to vote their most concerned social issues. We will use Max-Diff approach as a means of differentiating the personal relevance of different social issues. After the voting, we will response some innovative solutions to the participants corresponding to the voted social issues.
